Road Trip!!!!

Day Three (Part One)

Our first stop was the Buford Pusser Memorial Park in Adamsville, Tennessee. It was down the street from his house. I wasn't sure who this guy was but Bill said it's the guy from Walking Tall. I didn't see the movie.

Our next stop was the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. When we were almost there, we saw a billboard that said the tours went until 4:30. It was 4:35 when we saw the billboard. We got there around 4:35 and, luckily, their last tour was running late so we got to go on a tour! This is the welcome center.

Here's the picture of our tour group. The guy on the far left was the guide. He was just hilarious!

These are the big fire pits where they burn the wood to make the charcoal to filter the Jack Daniels.

The statue of Jack Daniels.

This was one of the stills. There were 5 in the building and they were 5 stories tall.

They keep the mash in these tanks.

This is the charcoal filtering room. As soon as we walked in the building, the whole place smelled like Jack Daniels. Our tour guide told us to lean over and he fanned the top so we could smell what was inside. I swear, for hours later, everything Bill and I smelled, smelled like Jack Daniels. The smell was seared in to our noses and lungs. It eventually wore off.

A barrel display. The barrels are burned on the inside and that's what makes the liquor brown. It's clear when it comes out of the still.

The bottling room.

The storage warehouse.

Inside the visitor's center. You couldn't buy regular Jack Daniels in the store. The city was dry. They had to fight to get permission to sell special commemorative bottles here.
