2013 Big Adventure
Delos - P.60
I included this so you can see what the Portico of Phillip V looked like. |
During the Period of Independence, the rulers of the Hellenistic states tried to outdo each other with big buildings. The Portico of Phillip V was built c. 210 B. C. by Phillip V as attested by the inscription on the epistyle, "PHILIP, KING OF THE MACEDONIANS, [SON OF] KING DEMETRIUS, TO APOLLO" |
The portico is in pieces now. |
|
Cool bit of metal embedded in there. |
|
I like the lion downspouts. |
|
The pieces were all over the place. |
When you looked at the drawing you could see where they went. |
Statue of Hermes. |
