2013 Big Adventure

Dubrovnik - P.119

Dubrovnik Croatia

Just like almost everywhere in Europe, we saw people filling their water bottles at the fountain.

Looking down Stradun, the main street. It connects western entrance, the "Pile Gate" to the "Ploce Gate" on the eastern end. Just like Trsteno, it was damaged by mortar shelling during the war but it has been repaired.

The bell tower.

We walked around a bit but then decided we had to walk around the walls.

Dubrovnik wall game of thrones

The walls are approximately 6,360 ft. long, encircling most of the old city, and reach a maximum height of about 82 ft. Most of the walls were built during the 14th and 15th centuries, but they were extended and strengthened until the 17th century.

The wall is among the largest and most complete in Europe. In 1979, the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls, joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

The walls are between 13-20 feet thick on the land side but are 5-16 feet think of the sea side because of the additional protection of the high sea cliffs.

If we had more than a couple of hours we would have taken thousands of photos!
