Dubrovnik - P.118

Dubrovnik Croatia

Back on the bus!

dubrovnik traffic

There was a lot of traffic going back in to Dubrovnik!

Our tour was over. We had a couple of hours before we had to be back on the ship so we went in to the city.

We entered through Gate of Pila. Over the gate there's a statue of city patron, Saint Blaise.

During the republican era there was a wooden drawbridge to the Pila Gate which was hoisted each night with considerable pomp in a ceremony which delivered the city's keys to the Ragusan rector. Today, it's a dry moat with a garden.

The Pila Gate.

Once you're inside the gate there's 3 ways to get inside the city.

We went this way.

The Large Onofrios Fountain. Built from 1438 - 1440, it was one of the ending points of the aqueduct system. It supplied citizens with fresh water.

You had to pay to walk on top of the wall.
