Italy Trip

Tuscany P.54

Day 7. Sunday morning.

Breakfast was included with our room.

It was a little chilly to be eating outside.

A view from the outside dining area.

The vineyards that made our hotel an agriturismo.

We were headed to Florence. We were scheduled to be at the Uffizi (famous for the painting, "The Birth of Venus") at 11:15. We had a couple of hours so, no problem, right? We had maps this time. We were prepared.

Well, litle problem with getting to Florence. We could see the highway on the map. We even passed it many, many times but there were no on-ramps so we just kept crossing it, back and forth while still going towards Florence. This road was on our map. It was a dirt road in the middle of vineyards.

Shortly after we passed the farm house we saw the farmer coming our way on his tractor. He got out and came to talk to us he didn't speak one word of English. When I said, "Firenze?" he literally slapped his head because we were so far off course. He tried to explain which way to go but it was all in Italian and he spoke VERY fast. We did get that we had to turn around.

We finally did get on the highway. The reason for hardly any on-ramps was because it's a tollway. We were over an hour late for the Uffizi by the time we got to Florence. After MANY mishaps trying to find a parking space, including us driving right up to the Uffizi where the vendors were, we found a spot in front of the Pitti Palace.

We were on the other side of the river so we started walking.

We got to walk over the famous Ponte Vecchio.

Oh boy were there a lot of people!
