Amalfi - P.19

Amalfi Cathedral

This fresco is attributed to Roberto d'Oderisio, the most important painter in the region of Campania in the second half of the 14th century. It portrays Christ in the foreground, the suffering Virgin Mary, John, Mary Magdalene and soldiers.

Above on the same fresco an Angel is being entrusted with the soul of the Good Thief.

On to the Basilica of the Crucifix. Now converted to a museum. This 14th century Madonna holds the Christ Child on her arm presenting him as "The Way to Salvation."

Next to the Madonna was a painted wood statue of the Prophet Elijah carved out of a single tree trunk.

It had fantastic detail!

A rare 18th century traveller's sedan used by the bishops.
