Venice - P.141

Venice

The Church of Saint Roch (Chiesa di San Rocco) was built between 1489 and 1508. The facade dates from 1765 to 1771. It is one of the Plague-churches built in Venice.

There used to be a school here with a wall that cut this part of Venice off from the rest of the city. Before that point, the center of the city was San Marco. Once this wall was torn down and people could walk through, it shifted the center of the city westward toward the train station. It was a turning point for the city. The stone commemorates the wall and what a historic decision it was to tear it down.

This was definitely more of a residential area. There were people carrying groceries but, as you can see, some tourists, like us, made it this far as well.

We liked the house spanning the street.

Flea market? You know we looked!
