Switching Wi-Fi

Posted on July 9, 2019

Last weekend we decided we needed to upgrade our wi-if. We bought new routers with repeaters in case the signal was weaker in parts of the house.

We have a lot of smart things in our house. They’re not all the same brand but they all work with Alexa.  We’ve had some of these plugs, etc. almost since Alexa was first introduced so, as you can imagine, we had a lot of old routines, scenes and IFTTT applets that we’re really old an unused. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to delete everything and start from scratch.

OMG! What a pain!

Adding back some plugs and cameras took hours to get them to broadcast and to re-add them to our system. It’s a week later and I still don’t have all of the routines working correctly. I haven’t even touched IFTTT, which has most of the old, unused routines.

I’m sure in the end it’ll be a better, more efficient system but I never want to do this again.
