Road Trip '09

Page 21

Sadly, we missed a roadside attraction because we left Monument Valley late. By the time we got to Hole N' The Rock, it had been closed for a while. It's a home carved in to the rock, open to the public. We were sad we missed it.

That night we stayed in Provo, UT.

The next morning was a riot. We were getting in to the car and there were a couple of bees hanging around by the red mud. Then we noticed more bees, 5 bees, then 6 bees, then even more bees. They were all on the passenger side, flying around the mud. We were afraid to open the car door because we didn't want them to fly in to the car so Bill jumped in to the car and drove around the parking lot. When he stopped the car, the bees were still with the car, they flew with the car around the parking lot. SO he drove around again, faster and then I jumped in as soon as he stopped. Anyone that saw us much have thought we were nuts.

In Provo we saw our first letter on a mountain. See the "Y" right in the middle of the photo?

We hadn't been to any "World's Largest" anythings the day before so we had a purpose before we left Utah.

We were going to see the World's Largest hole in the ground.

We saw lots of evidence of mining along the way.

The Bingham Canyon Mine - The Biggest Pit in the World!

In 1906 this used to be a mountain but now it's a pit 2.5 miles wide and .75 miles deep. It can be seen from space.

It is the World's most productive mine over it's lifetime.

Thos trucks look like little Tonka toys but they are HUGE!

It really was amazingly big.
