2013 Big Adventure

Corfu - P.94

Corfu Greece

Our first stop was the Achilleion Palace.

Achilleion Palace

The palace was by Empress of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria a year after she lost her only son, Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria in the Mayerling Incident in 1889.

This was a Summer palace. She built it because she admired Greece and its language and culture.

A statue of Elizabeth, also known as "Sisi."

The Palace was already cool before we even went in.

These were on either side of the door.

The ceiling of the entrance. It's called "The Four Seasons and the Hours."

I guess you'd call this the painted moulding around the ceiling. Very intricate!

These were on either side of the main staircase.

They would totally scare me at night. They were nearly as tall as I am.

Heading in to the chapel.

The arch painting depicts The Trial of Christ.
