2013 Big Adventure
Corfu - P.94
Our first stop was the Achilleion Palace. |
The palace was by Empress of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria a year after she lost her only son, Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria in the Mayerling Incident in 1889. |
This was a Summer palace. She built it because she admired Greece and its language and culture. |
A statue of Elizabeth, also known as "Sisi." |
The Palace was already cool before we even went in. |
These were on either side of the door. |
The ceiling of the entrance. It's called "The Four Seasons and the Hours." |
I guess you'd call this the painted moulding around the ceiling. Very intricate! |
These were on either side of the main staircase. |
They would totally scare me at night. They were nearly as tall as I am. |
Heading in to the chapel. |
The arch painting depicts The Trial of Christ. |
