I think that white flat patch is a glacier.

whistle stop

You can take a certain train that has whistle stop hiking tours. This is one of the stops.

The snow was getting really thick. At the water it was about 3 feet deep.

We went in to a tunnel and the train stopped. We were stuck for about 20 minutes. They made an announcement that there was debris on the tracks that had to be removed. We never found out of it was a rock slide or a fallen tree.

As we went on I was starting to worry about the weather in Anchorage. This was a lot of snow!
