Juice

Our guide, Johnny, made a great fire, as you can see, and he heated up this GREAT juice that we LOVED and gave us everywhere we went over the fire. We also had some really good ginger snap cookies.

Aurora camp

On our first aurora excursion we didn't see an aurora but it was super nice.

Intense

When they brought out the food everyone was VERY focused! They told us the food was a combo of grog and beef. It was very soupy. The dogs loved it! After they ate, they were very much calmer.

Interaction

After they unhooked all the dogs we got to pet them and see the puppies!

Saying bye!

Waving bye as he drives our team to their houses. Then we get to interact with them and they get fed. That little boy next to the tree was the son of the caretakers. He was a little scamp. The only English word he seemed to know was "Hello." He was walking around with a stick from a tree saying, "Helloooo!" and poking the dogs and people with the stick. The dogs were annoyed but seemed used to it like, "This kid! What are you gonna do?"

Bill!

We were on the trail for about 2 hours. Bill steered the whole way. It was not easy either. He did a great job!

One minute later

The light is gone, only the red is left. It was a beautiful sunrise/sunset, all in about 20 minutes.

The bar

After an hour we went to the bar to see if we could find some people. Bill went inside and asked. Finally someone even came outside to smoke. He told me that they spotted a brief aurora at the camp, not here, so they set off the alarm, just in case. We didn't stay out much longer. It was disappointing. Oh well. We had time and now we knew how it worked.

No one around

We thought it was weird that we didn't see anyone else outside, even after a half hour, not one other person. Still no aurora.

Hmmmm....

We didn't see anything but we were patient. Bill calibrated his camera and we kept looking.

Clear night

It was a very clear night. You can see how bright the moon is shining. The construction on the left is an expansion of the main lodge.

Welcome bears

After this we went to get our cold weather gear that we wore on top of our many, many layers of clothes.

Forest

There was forest in almost every direction around us. The nearby town was very small and a ways off. After we got our winter stuff, we took a nap. We got up for dinner, ate, and then took another nap. It was so dark and with the jet lag, we kept falling asleep.

The sign

We didn't get to take a photo of the sign when we first arrived so we took one while we were walking around.
