Italy Trip

Rome P.9

It had a teeny, tiny bathroom. Bill kept hitting his head on the beams.

The bedroom was upstairs.

Cute bedroom. We took a long nap.

The lock on the front door cracked us up. It looked medieval.

When we woke up from our nap we realized that we had no idea where we were in Rome. We were just dropped off and no one ever told us an address or anything. So, we took a picture of the front door so we could find our way back.

We walked in the right direction because we stumbled on to the Piazza Navona. This is the Fontana di Nettuno.

A shot of the piazza. You can see the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone.

The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers).

The four figures on each side of the fountain represent the four great rivers in the four continents recognized by the Renaissance geographers: the Nile in Africa, Ganges in Asia, Danube in Europe, and Río de la Plata in America

A legend of this figure is that Bernini positioned him covering his face as if he couldn't stand to look at the facade of the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone that was designed by his rival Borromini.

There was so much going on with this fountain. This is one of the horses at the base.

The piazza was lined with restaurants. We loved eating there.
